December means Christmas markets all over Europe! Here’s a list of our top five. Ho ho ho, Happy Holidays!

  •  Leipzig, Germany

When? 26th November to 23rd December

Leipzig Christmas market goes all the way back! It has six (!) areas and they are set in chime with the beautiful historical scenery of the Leipzig city centre. There are over 250 twinkling stalls. Leipzig Christmas market is not only one of the oldest but also one of the largest Christmas markets in Germany. Experience the gorgeous multitude of festive delights and taste the numerous culinary delights. Make sure you don’t miss the ferry wheel on Augustplatz!

  •  Cologne, Germany

When? 25th November to 23rd December

The Christmas market in Cologne has everything you’d expect of a typical German Christmas market: glühwein, crafts and twinkling lights. Special about this Christmas market are the more than 100 stage performances throughout the festival, including Christmas carols and gospel! Enjoy the delicious bratwurst that they serve at the foodstands!

  • Prague, Czech Republic

When? 30th November to 6th January

Enjoy a cup of mulled wine in the Old Town and on the Wenceslas Square of this gorgeous city. Make sure you try the barbecued pork and trdelnìk, a hot pastry rolled in cinnamon and sugar and cooked over a grill. Don’t forget your hat, gloves and a warm jacket, it can get pretty cold here during Winter!

  • Brussels, Belgium

When? 29th November to 5th January

Every December, the areas around the Bourse stock exchange, the Place de la Monnaie, the Place de Sainte-Catherine, and the Marché aux Poissons are transformed into a huge winter wonderland with a covered ice rink, a ferris wheel and a light show projected onto the Grand Place.

  • Edinburgh, Scotland

When? 16th November to 4th January

A true Santa land! This Christmas market is pretty unique with its Christmas tree maze and a mini-train ride for the little ones. Make sure to check out the view from the ferris wheel, better known as ‘The Edinburgh Eye’.
