Ten must-haves for your dorm
Summer holiday will be over soon and before you realize it we’ll be stressing about paper deadlines and exams again. Moving into a student room for the first time also means new experiences and a lot of changes. Making sure you have all the essentials before classes start is key. Here are ten must-haves you shouldn’t forget!
- Make it personal with printed photos
Nothing brings as much personality into your bare student room as posters and photos on the wall. To give it that little bit extra impact you can frame them, hang them on clips or use different formats. It’s nice to remember moments you have spent together, rather than just seeing their faces on Facebook or Instagram.
- Shatterproof wine glasses
Grab a set of these unbreakable wine glasses and sit back, relax, and enjoy your wine. With these wine glasses you can focus on having fun as you will not risk having to clean up broken glass.
- A water boiler
A water boiler is a must-have in your room. You can make tea, hot chocolate, oatmeal, … and all that in the comfort of your own room. It’s perfect for early mornings, late nights, or whenever you are too lazy to go to the kitchen.
- A sweatshirt you don’t mind losing
Make sure to bring a random sweatshirt to wear when going out to bars. Like this, you don't ruin your nice ones. People always lose their jackets, especially during winter so it's nice to bring something you don't necessarily mind losing.
- Shower caddy
This is important when you're showering in communal showers! It holds all your shampoo, conditioner, body wash and soap in one place. It's easy to use and you never forget to bring anything back to your room.
- Over the door rack
Utilize your door to maximize space with door racks. An over the door rack can hold bags, scarves, hats, coats, jackets and more. It keeps your room clean and gives you more space.
- Laundry bag
You will certainly need a laundry bag in your student room. The lighter your basket, the better, as it makes is easier to carry out to the car or down to the laundry room when it's time to wash.
- A steamer
Small storage space (or clothes left on the ground) can cause your clothes to wrinkle, so this little steamer could save you when dressing up for an internship or a night out.
- Underbed Storage
Student rooms can be small, and you need to make the most of the available storage. Underbed storages are perfect for keeping your winter clothes or shoes. Pro tip: If you need more storage, use your suitcase.
10. A foldable drying rack
You probably don't realize how many of your nicer, going-out clothes are flat-dry only ... There aren't always dryers available so make sure you have a rack in your room to dry a quick load.
